2017 NBA Africa Game

Saturday, 5 August 2017, at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg South Africa, Team Africa and Team World competed for the number one spot, at the 2017 NBA Africa Game. Team World defeated Team Africa 108-97.

The week leading up to the Saturday game, players, coaches and Basketball Without Borders participated in numerous activities, that were aimed at growing the sport, and uplifting communities.

The NBA AFRICA GAME FAN ZONE, which was hosted at The Zone in Rosebank, Johannesburg, included appearances by current and former NBA players, fan competitions and perfomances from NBA mascots and dunk teams.

The NBA AFRICA INNOVATION, which was hosted at The Venue in Melrose Arch, brought together leaders from business, entertainment, philanthropy, sports, social entrepreneurs, technology and youth development.

The JUNIOR NBA AFRICA FESTIVAL, where boys and girls from South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Zimbabwe competed in a tournament, was hosted in Phokeng, in the North West Province.

The NBA SPORTS MEDICINE SYMPOSIUM, which was hosted by NBA and NBA Physicians Association, at Hyatt Regency, included health practitioners who exchanged ideas on how to improve health and wellness in basketball.

The NBA CARES AND NBPA FOUNDATION COMMUNITY EVENTS saw players and coaches working with Habitat For Humanity, to build houses in Orange Farm. They also visited children at the SOS Children’s Village in Ennerdale.

Well known names that were involved in the NBA Africa Game festivities included, Pearl Thusi, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Thierry Henry, Akon, Hasheem “The Dream” Thabeet, Cassper Nyovest, Lucas Radebe, Masai Ujiri, Hakeem Kae-Kazeem and many more.
