Wellington Jighere from Nigeria, is the new King of Scrabble. He is the winner of the 2015 World Scrabble Championships, after defeating his opponent Lewis Mackay. He is the first player from the African continent to take this title. He won himself a cash prize of $10 000. I am so proud of Wellington. It brings me so much joy to see someone from my own continent becoming a champion of a game that I enjoy.
Wellington was introduced to Scrabble by his older brother in 1996. Since then, he has participated in several major tournaments. In 2007, he participated in the World Scrabble Championships, and he got third place. In 2008, he won the Africa Scrabble Championships, which were held in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2009 he won the Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics. In 2010, he took a break from Scrabble, to focus on his studies, and came back in 2013, to claim his title as the King of Scrabble in 2015 in Australia.
