April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and Terry Pheto, is participating in the Red My Lips Campaign, by wearing red lipstick during April. Red My Lips is an international non-profit organization, that runs an annual global awareness campaign, where it encourages its supporters (male and female), to wear red lipstick during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, to raise awareness and funds. The red lipstick is used to create visibility, combat rape myths and victim blaming and demonstrate solidarity and support for survivors of sexual assault.
As you apply your red lipstick this month, think about Nelson Mandela’s words:
“For every woman and girl violently attacked, we reduce our humanity. For every moment we remain silent, we conspire against our women.”
And also remember Barack Obama’s words:
“Men need to show women the respect they deserve, and recognize sexual assault, and to do their part to stop it.”
