Queen Nzinga was a Warrior Queen of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms of the Mbundu people of Angola, who lived during the 17th century.
She was groomed for leadership by her father at a very young age. She observed him as he governed the kingdom, and he carried her to war. Nzinga grew up to become a shrewd diplomat and an excellent military leader.
After her brother, Ngola Mbande died, she became queen, and fought for the freedom of her kingdom against the Portuguese, who were colonizing the area at the time. Queen Nzinga is a perfect example of the amazing things that happen when a girl child is groomed for greatness at a very young age.
